    • Στόχος αυτής της έρευνας είναι να ερευνήσει το κίνητρο και τη στάση των ενηλίκων απέναντι στο μάθημα των Αγγλικών, βασιζόμενη στο πρότυπο L2 Motivational Self System. Η έρευνα διεξήχθη στο τμήμα Επιστήμης Φυσικής Αγωγής και Αθλητισμού (Πανεπιστήμιο Θεσσαλίας), όπου και πήραν μέρος 69 φοιτητές. Χρησιμοποιήθηκε ποσοτική έρευνα και τα δεδομένα συλλέχθηκαν με τη συμπλήρωση ερωτηματολογίου. Οι ανεξάρτητες μεταβλητές του ερωτηματολογίου είναι το γένος, η ηλικία, η εθνικότητα, το έτος σπουδών, η κατοχή πιστοποιητικού στην Αγγλική γλώσσα και το επίπεδο γλωσσομάθειας. Οι εξαρτημένες μεταβλητές είναι εννέα συνιστώσες του L2 Motivational Self System. Τα αποτελέσματα έδειξαν ότι οι κυρίαρχες συνιστώσες που επηρεάζουν το κίνητρο και τη στάση των φοιτητών είναι ο Ιδανικός Εαυτός, ο Ταξιδιωτικός Προσανατολισμός, το Ενδιαφέρον για την Αγγλική γλώσσα και το Μέσο Προώθησης. Σημαντικές διαφορές παρατηρήθηκαν επίσης στο επίπεδο των πιστοποιητικών στην Αγγλική των φοιτητών καθώς και στο επίπεδο γλωσσομάθειας και γένους.
    • The aim of this research is to explore young adults’ motivation and attitude towards English lesson based on the L2 Motivational Self System (L2MSS) by Dörnyei (2009) which is the most recent development in language learning motivation. The research was conducted in the Department of Physical Education & Sport Science (University of Thessaly) and 69 students took part in it. A quantitative approach was used based on the L2MSS questionnaire (Taguchi, Magid & Papi, 2009). The independent variables of gender, age, nationality, year of study, certificate in English and self-perceived competence Were checked against the dependent variables of Ideal L2 self, Ought-to L2 self, Instrumentality/ Promotion, Instrumentality/ Prevention, Attitudes toward learning English, Travel orientation, Fear of assimilation, Ethnocentrism and Interest in the English language. The results revealed that the most prominent scales of the students are the Ideal L2 self, Travel orientation, Interest in the English language and Instrumentality/Promotion. Significant differences were noticed in students’ certificate level in the English language, their self-perceived competence and their gender.
