    • The rapid growth of e-commerce has transformed the way people buy and sell products, yet the market for used books remains underserved by dedicated platforms. Existing solutions, such as social-media groups and generic classified-ad sites, lack specialised search filters (for example by ISBN or book condition), as well as the security and transparency required for trustworthy transactions. This thesis addresses that gap through the design and development of a web-based information system for buying and selling used books. The system was implemented with the Django framework (Python) on the back end, SQLite for data storage, and JavaScript for client-side interactivity, following Django's Model-View-Template architecture. It offers user registration and profile management, book listing and management, advanced search, a wishlist, a shopping cart, secure transaction handling with shipping-cost and discount options, seller ratings, and in-app messaging between buyers and sellers, together with a comprehensive administration interface. The development followed a structured methodology comprising the analysis of functional and non-functional requirements, use-case modelling for both end users and administrators, conceptual (entity-relationship) and relational database design, and implementation of the core functionality. Beyond its technical contribution, the platform promotes sustainable consumption and the circular economy by extending the useful life of books, while widening affordable access to knowledge.
