Σκοπός της παρούσας εργασίας είναι η μελέτη της διαδικασίας μεταφοράς των λογοτεχνικών έργων στον κινηματογράφο. Ειδικότερα εξετάζονται οι νουβέλες του Stephen King “Fall From Innocence (The Body)”  και “Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption” και η μεταφορά τους στον κινηματογράφο από τους σκηνοθέτες Rob Reiner kai Frank Darabont αντίστοιχα.

Στο πρώτο μέρος εξετάζονται οι έννοιες της λογοτεχνίας και του κινηματογράφου, οι σχέσεις τους και οι διαφορές τους. Αναλύονται οι έννοιες της διασκευής , της μεταφοράς και της αφήγησης και επιχειρείται μια συγκριτική προσέγγιση των εκφραστικών μέσων που χρησιμοποιούνται στις δύο τέχνες. Γίνεται προσπάθεια να αναλυθεί ο ρόλος του σεναρίου στην διαδικασία της κινηματογραφικής μεταφοράς.

Στο δεύτερο μέρος γίνεται η εκ του σύνεγγυς ανάγνωση των δύο έργων και των σεναρίων τους (σεναριογράφοι Raynold Gideon and Bruce A. Evans και Frank Darabont αντίστοιχα). Κατόπιν της παρακολούθησης των δύο ταινιών γίνεται προσπάθεια να αναλυθούν οι διαφορές που προέκυψαν στη δομή, στην πλοκή και στους χαρακτήρες των έργων κατά την κινηματογραφική τους μεταφορά. Μελετάται ο ρόλος του σεναρίου και η ικανότητά του σεναριογράφου να παράγει ένα καινούριο έργο.

Τέλος γίνεται μια προσπάθεια απάντησης στο ερώτημα του κατά πόσον η γραφή του Stephen King είναι κινηματογραφική και σε ποιο βαθμό αυτή η ιδιότητα-ικανότητα διευκολύνει τους σεναριογράφους κατά τις οπτικοακουστικές μεταφορές.

The purpose of this study is to examine the process of adapting literary works into film. Specifically, it explores Stephen King's novellas Fall From Innocence (The Body) and Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption and their cinematic adaptations by directors Rob Reiner and Frank Darabont, respectively.

In the first part, the concepts of literature and cinema, their relationships, and their differences are analyzed. The study examines the notions of adaptation, transfer, and narration, while also attempting a comparative approach to the expressive means used in both arts. Additionally, it explores the role of the screenplay in the process of cinematic adaptation.

The second part presents a close reading of the two literary works and their screenplays (written by Raynold Gideon and Bruce A. Evans, and Frank Darabont, respectively). Following the viewing of the two films, an effort is made to analyze the differences that emerged in terms of structure, plot, and character development during the adaptation process. The study also examines the role of the screenplay and the screenwriter's ability to create a new work.

Finally, the study attempts to answer whether Stephen King's writing is inherently cinematic and to what extent this quality facilitates screenwriters in the process of audiovisual adaptation.
