    • Η παρούσα Διπλωματική Εργασία παρουσιάζει την έρευνα που πραγματοποιήθηκε στο Λύκειο Κασσιώπης στην Κέρκυρα με συμμετέχοντες τους μαθητές της Α’ Λυκείου μέσα στο πλαίσιο καλλιέργειας Διαπολιτισμικής Επίγνωσης στο μάθημα των Αγγλικών. Ο κύριος στόχος είναι η απόκτηση Διαπολιτισμικής Επίγνωσης μέσα από τις Εικαστικές Τέχνες. Πιο συγκεκριμένα εξετάζει την υπόθεση του αν και κατά ποιο βαθμό αυτή η διαδικασία μπορεί να αλλάξει την αντίληψη των μαθητών για το «άλλο», το «διαφορετικό» και αν μπορούν να αναπτύξουν ευαισθησία και ενσυναίσθηση προς αυτό. Αυτή η έρευνα αποτελεί μια ταπεινή προσπάθεια να συνεισφέρει στην κοινότητα των εκπαιδευτικών της Αγγλικής Γλώσσας να καλλιεργήσουν τη Διαπολιτισμική Επίγνωση στους μαθητές τους μέσα από το σχεδιασμό μαθημάτων που χρησιμοποιούν τις Εικαστικές Τέχνες. Η ολοκλήρωση της έρευνας και η επεξεργασία των αποτελεσμάτων αποδεικνύουν ότι η εφαρμογή των Εικαστικών Τεχνών στο μάθημα των Αγγλικών μπορεί να προάγει τη Διαπολιτισμική Επίγνωση, την ευαισθησία και ενσυναίσθηση στους μαθητές.
    • This dissertation presents the research that took place in the Senior High School of Kassiopi, Corfu in Greece in the school year 2020-21 with the students of the first grade as participants within the framework of cultivating Intercultural Awareness (IA) in English Foreign Language (EFL) classroom. The main aim is the acquisition of IA through the medium of the Visual Arts (VΑs). More particularly it tests the hypothesis of whether and to what extent this procedure can change students’ perceptions about the “other”, the ‘different”, and whether they can develop sensitivity and empathy towards it. This research is a humble attempt to contribute to the English Foreign Language Teaching (TEFL) community in Greece but also elsewhere with theoretical evidence and a methodology that might inspire and enable teachers to cultivate IA in their learners through the design of lessons based on the VAs. The completion of the research and the examination of the results prove that applying the VAs to the EFL lesson can promote IA and cultivate sensitivity and empathy in young learners.
