    • This study examines the recent development of multiculturalism in Greek classrooms and how to use this new situation for the benefit of all of the cultures represented in the English language classroom. Information of the recent immigration in Greece as well as the multicultural character of the particular school is laid out in chapter 1. Relevant theories and literature on language learning, L1, L2. L3, are presented in chapter 2. Chapter 3 deals with some theories on curriculum and syllabus as well as the examination of the particular current English syllabus. The findings of the research are presented in chapter 4 and chapter 5 offers practical propositions to modify the syllabus to include activities promoting cross-cultural understanding and two learning situations where activities of this type have been included. Chapter 6 looks at the possibilities offered by the English language classroom to help implement the aims expressed in the Curriculum and offers a positive attitudinal direction for teachers in multicultural situations.
