Η ανάπτυξη της δια βίου μάθησης αποτελεί μία από τις πιο σημαντικές επιταγές της σύγχρονης εποχής και μάλιστα τονίζεται από τις πολιτικές των σύγχρονων κρατών και της Ευρωπαϊκής Ένωσης. Η ανάπτυξη του πεδίου αυτού συνδέεται με τις σύγχρονες και διαρκείς εξελίξεις στο πεδίο όχι μόνο της εκπαίδευσης, αλλά και γενικά σε κάθε τομέα της ζωής του σύγχρονου ανθρώπου, καθώς και με την αναδυόμενη ανάγκη για ανεμπόδιστη συμμετοχή όλων στις εκπαιδευτικές διαδικασίες και την ένταξη κάθε πολίτη ισότιμα στην κοινωνία. Σε αυτό το πλαίσιο και στην περίπτωση της Ελλάδας έχει αναπτυχθεί τα τελευταία χρόνια σημαντικά ο τομέας της δια βίου εκπαίδευσης και εξακολουθεί να αναπτύσσεται διαρκώς, παρά τις δυσκολίες που προκύπτουν από την τρέχουσα συγκυρία της οικονομικής κρίσης. Τα Κέντρα Δια Βίου Μάθησης είναι φορείς που έχουν πρωταγωνιστικό ρόλο σε αυτή τη διαδικασία. Σημαντικός είναι, επιπλέον, ο ρόλος των εκπαιδευτών ενηλίκων που καλούνται να υλοποιήσουν τα προσφερόμενα εκπαιδευτικά προγράμματα με βάση τις αρχές της Εκπαίδευσης Ενηλίκων. Οι εκπαιδευτές αυτοί έχουν, εκτός των άλλων, να αντιμετωπίσουν και προσωπικά ελλείμματα σε κατάρτιση και εκπαίδευση. Οι εκπαιδευτικές τους ανάγκες, όπως προέκυψε από την παρούσα έρευνα, εντοπίζονται τόσο στο πεδίο της Εκπαίδευσης Ενηλίκων όσο και σε αυτό της διδασκαλίας και μπορούν να καλυφθούν με τη συμμετοχή τους σε προγράμματα κατάρτισης.
The development of lifelong learning is one of the most important requirements of the modern era and is underlined by the policies of modern states and the European Union. The development of this field is connected with the modern and continuous developments in the field not only of education, but also generally in every field of modern human life, as well as the emerging need for unimpeded participation for everyone in the educational processes and the equal integration of every citizen in the society. According to all these, in the case of Greece, the sector of lifelong learning has developed significantly in the recent years and continues to grow constantly, despite the difficulties that arise from the current conjuncture of the economic crisis. Lifelong Learning Centers are actors that have a leading role in this process. The role of adult educators who are called upon to implement the educational programs offered on the basis of the principles of Adult Education is also important. These educators, among other things, have to face personal deficits in training and education. Their educational needs, as revealed by this research, are identified both in the field of Adult Education and in teaching and can be covered by their participation in training programs.
