    • Η παρούσα εργασία αποτελείται από ένα μέρος κριτικό και από ένα δημιουργικό και επιχειρεί να ιχνηλατήσει ιστορικά τις εξελίξεις στη λογοτεχνία του φανταστικού από τις αρχές του 20ου αι., τόσο μέσα από μια χρονολογική παρουσίαση ανά δεκαετία, όσο και μέσα από την επιλογή συγκεκριμένων έργων. Για να πραγματοποιηθεί ο στόχος κρίθηκε απαραίτητο να γίνει μια επιλεκτική αναφορά σε πολύ παλαιότερα έργα τα οποία, όμως, μπορούν να χαρακτηριστούν προδρομικά και στα οποία το φανταστικό στοιχείο έπαιξε καθοριστικό ρόλο. Για τον ίδιο σκοπό κρίθηκε απαραίτητο να γίνει μια σχετικά εκτενής, αλλά και πάλι επιλεκτική, αναφορά στην ορολογία και στα υποείδη του φανταστικού. Στο δημιουργικό μέρος επιχειρείται η παρουσίαση ενός διηγήματος επηρεασμένο, κυρίως, από τα υποείδη της φαντασίας πύλης και της αστικής φαντασίας.
    • This dissertation, consisting of a critical and a creative part, is an attempt to trace the evolution of the fantastic in literature, mainly focusing on developments in the genre from early 20th century onwards. This takes place through a mostly chronological presentation of the most influential works and, in the process, it also becomes necessary to mention certain older, foundational works, in which the roots of the modern fantastic are arguably located. In order to understand the evolution of the genre and its varied manifestations, multiple references to the basic terms and descriptions of subgenres are required. The field is admittedly enormous and in the course of this dissertation we are able to better grasp the volume of such literary production across the 20th century and beyond. The creative part consists of a 7000-word story, mainly influenced by the subgenres of portal and urban fantasy.
