    • This thesis examines the deterioration of stone materials at the Archaeological Site of Delphi, focusing on the Temple of Apollo and the Ancient Stadium. It also examines the natural and environmental factors that may be related to the development and progression of the deterioration observed, as well as the possible influence of changes in climatic parameters. The research is based on a qualitative approach, combining a literature review with macroscopic visual observation and photographic documentation carried out during a field visit on 11 May 2026. The deterioration patterns identified in the two monuments were classified according to the ICOMOS–ISCS terminology and examined in relation to the stone materials and the local exposure conditions of each monument. Cracks, material loss, alveolisation, rounding and biological colonisation were identified in both case studies, while localised displacement and disorganisation of stone elements were also recorded at the Ancient Stadium. The results show that the recorded deterioration cannot be examined in relation to a single environmental factor. Water and moisture, temperature variations, biological activity and vegetation, geodynamic instability, the characteristics of the stone materials and local exposure conditions may contribute in different ways to its development. Although projected climatic changes may modify the future exposure conditions of the monuments, the available evidence does not allow the deterioration recorded during the field investigation to be directly attributed to climate change. Finally, the comparison of the two monuments shows that similar visible deterioration does not necessarily mean that it developed through the same mechanisms, since differences exist in both their stone materials and local exposure conditions. The study therefore supports the need to examine each monument individually and highlights the importance of systematic monitoring for its future conservation and protection.
