    • The present thesis undertakes a comprehensive review of the applications of Artificial Intelligence (AI), along with the technological innovations and applications of Industry 4.0 (4th Industrial Revolution) and Industry 5.0 (5th Industrial Revolution) in the contemporary printing industry. The study places particular emphasis on automation, optimized workflows, advancements in printing technologies, modern approaches and practices for enhancing performance through innovations in print design and production, as well as digital and sustainable practices. All of the abovementioned factors are examined in conjunction with the structure, characteristics, and advances of the graphic arts and printing industry. This paper presents an overview of artificial intelligence (AI), encompassing its subfields, the technologies contributing to its development, and the specific applications of Predictive AI, Generative AI, and Agentic AI. It then proceeds to explore the technological spectrum of Industry 4.0, addressing such topics as Additive Manufacturing, 3D Printing, AI Integration, Machine Learning (ML), Deep Learning (DL), cobots, big data analytics, cloud, edge, and fog computing, cybersecurity, blockchain, horizontal and vertical system integration, IoT, IIoT, and IIoP, CPS, smart manufacturing, supply chain management, machine-machine collaboration, new business models, and simulation technologies: digital twins, 3D modeling, VR, AR). The paper then moves on to the philosophy of Industry 5.0, which is characterised by autonomy, human-centricity, resilience, sustainability, and human-machine collaboration. The final section of the paper assesses the practical application of these concepts in industry. The study also examines the factors that influence manufacturing (digital transformation, lean manufacturing, continuous improvement, sustainability, and the circular economy), while placing particular emphasis on their impact on human capital (Human Capital – HC), the implications for work, employment, and development; and, through a review of Industry 4.0, it highlights that the main driver of digital transformation lies in the development of human capital (HCD). The present situation is conducive to the development of new skills, new specializations, and hybrid skill sets combining technical, creative, managerial and entrepreneurial competencies. The advent of Industry 4.0 is associated with transformative changes in employment opportunities, a phenomenon that is intensified by businesses' transition to Industry 5.0. This development underscores the importance of HCD as a key driver of developmental progress, but also regarding the spectrum of knowledge, skills, and competencies required as pivotal qualifications within the current working conditions. A holistic approach to HCD is finally presented and analyzed through the development of operational models at the sector and industry levels of the graphic arts and printing sector. This enables the continuous development of the human factor within the sector.
