      Green.

    • The aim of the present Master’s thesis is the systematic study of Green’s function techniques
in the context of partial differential equations with boundary conditions, with emphasis on both
their theoretical foundations and their numerical implementations in selected physical systems.
Green’s functions constitute a powerful analytical framework for solving boundary value problems,
since they allow the representation of the solution of a nonhomogeneous differential equation
through integral formulas involving the source term and the boundary conditions of the
      problem.
In the first chapter, the necessary mathematical preliminaries are presented, with particular emphasis
on distribution theory, the Dirac delta distribution, and the concept of weak solutions.
These notions provide the rigorous mathematical framework required for the formulation and
      analysis of Green’s functions.
The second chapter is devoted to Green’s identities, which are derived from the divergence theorem
and establish fundamental relationships between differential operators and boundary data.
Detailed proofs are presented, and the role of these identities in the existence and uniqueness
      theory of solutions is examined.
In the third chapter, Green’s functions for linear elliptic operators are introduced, and the classical
Dirichlet and Neumann boundary value problems are studied in detail. Particular emphasis
is placed on the symmetry and regularity properties of Green’s functions, as well as on their
      relation to Sturm–Liouville theory.
The fourth chapter presents applications of the theory to selected physical systems, including
heat transfer problems, electrical circuits, and mechanical models, formulated within an appropriate
mathematical framework. These examples illustrate the natural appearance of Green’s
functions in the modeling and analysis of applied problems.
Finally, the fifth chapter focuses on basic numerical techniques for the approximation and implementation
of Green’s function representations, together with comparisons with other classical
methods for solving partial differential equations, such as eigenfunction expansions and Fourier
methods. The advantages and limitations of the Green’s function approach are discussed, highlighting
its effectiveness as a unifying analytical and computational method for linear boundary
      value problems.
