Η παρούσα εργασία επικεντρώνει το ενδιαφέρον της στην παρουσίαση και τον σχολιασμό από τον ημερήσιο Τύπο στην Ελλάδα του ζητήματος της εμπλοκής του διεθνούς παράγοντα στο κυπριακό πρόβλημα, στην κρίσιμη καμπή των ετών 1964-1965. Επομένως, σε ένα μεγάλο τμήμα της βασίστηκε στην αναζήτηση και την αξιολόγηση σχετικών άρθρων που εντοπίστηκαν στα ηλεκτρονικά αρχεία εφημερίδων της Βουλής των Ελλήνων και της Εθνικής Βιβλιοθήκης καθώς και στο ιστορικό ηλεκτρονικό αρχείο της εφημερίδας H Καθημερινή. Προκειμένου να υπάρξει μια ολοκληρωμένη, κατά το δυνατόν, εικόνα των απόψεων του Τύπου, επιλέχθηκαν τρεις εφημερίδες, αντιπροσωπευτικές των τριών βασικών παραταξιακών ομάδων του ελληνικού πολιτικού χώρου. Από τον χώρο της Δεξιάς, H Καθημερινή, η κεντρώα Ελευθερία και από την Αριστερά, H Αυγή.
Στο πρώτο εισαγωγικό κεφάλαιο της εργασίας έγινε προσπάθεια για μια περιληπτική καταγραφή των γεγονότων που σχετίζονται με την επιρροή του διεθνούς παράγοντα στο Κυπριακό και προηγήθηκαν της εξεταζόμενης χρονικής περιόδου, με αφετηρία την ένταξη της Κύπρου στη βρετανική διοίκηση το 1878. Το κυρίως μέρος της εργασίας -τα πέντε επόμενα κεφάλαια- αποτελεί η περίοδος από τον Δεκέμβριο του 1963, μετά την κατάθεση των «δεκατριών σημείων» από τον Μακάριο, έως την έκδοση του ψηφίσματος της Συνέλευσης των Ηνωμένων Εθνών για το Κυπριακό της 18ης Δεκεμβρίου του 1965.
Η διάρθρωση της εργασίας στα πέντε κύρια κεφάλαια ακολουθεί την παρουσίαση των πρωτοβουλιών που λήφθηκαν από ξένες δυνάμεις και διεθνείς οργανισμούς για τη διευθέτηση του κυπριακού ζητήματος βάσει χρονολογικής σειράς. Κάθε κεφάλαιο χωρίζεται σε ενότητες, εκ των οποίων οι πρώτες αποτελούν καταγραφή των σχετικών με το θέμα της εργασίας ιστορικών εξελίξεων. Η συγγραφή σε αυτό το τμήμα βασίστηκε στη μελέτη της ελληνικής, ως επί το πλείστον , βιβλιογραφίας. Στο τέλος κάθε κεφαλαίου έγινε προσπάθεια να αναδειχθούν, μέσα από το πρωτογενές υλικό των εφημερίδων, οι ερευνητικοί στόχοι της εργασίας. Αυτοί αφορούν στην προβολή των κριτικών απόψεων των εφημερίδων για τα θέματα που σχετίζονται με τον ρόλο του διεθνούς παράγοντα στο Κυπριακό και τη σύνδεσή τους με την εσωτερική πολιτική ζωή στην Ελλάδα και τον ιδεολογικοπολιτικό προσανατολισμό εκάστου εντύπου.
This thesis focuses its interest on the presentation and commentary by the daily press in Greece on the issue of the involvement of the international factor in the Cyprus problem, at the critical juncture of the years 1964-1965. Therefore, a large part of it was based on the search and evaluation of relevant articles that were located in the electronic newspaper archives of the Hellenic Parliament and the National Library as well as in the historical electronic archive of the newspaper Kathimerini.In order to have a comprehensive, as far as possible, picture of the opinions of the press, three newspapers were selected, representative of the three main factional groups of the Greek political space. From the Right, Kathimerini, the centrist Eleftheria and from the Left, Avgi.
In the first introductory chapter of the work, an attempt was made to provide a summary record of the events related to the influence of the international factor on the Cyprus issue and which preceded the period under consideration, starting with the accession of Cyprus to British administration in 1878. The main part of the work – the five following chapters – consists of the period from December 1963, after the submission of the “thirteen points” by Makarios, to the issuance of the resolution of the United Nations General Assembly on the Cyprus issue of December 18, 1965.
The structure of the work in the five main chapters follows a chronological order of presentation of the initiatives taken by foreign powers and international organizations for the settlement of the Cyprus issue. Each chapter is divided into sections, the first of which constitute a record of the historical developments relevant to the topic of the work. The writing in this part of the paper was mainly based on the study of Greek bibliography. At the end of each chapter, an attempt was made to highlight, through the primary material of the newspapers, the research objectives of the work. These concern the projection of the newspapers' critical opinions on issues related to the role of the international factor in the Cyprus issue and their connection with the internal political life in Greece and the ideological and political orientation of each publication.
