Η νόσος των λεγεωναρίων αποτελεί μια άτυπη σπάνια μορφή πνευμονίας που οφείλεται σε βακτήρια του γένους Legionella. Πρόκειται για ένα Gram (-) βάκιλο όπου ευδοκιμεί κυρίως στο υδάτινο φυσικό και τεχνητό περιβάλλον και είναι η legionella pneumophila. Η διάγνωση της νόσου έχει ως βάση την κλινική  ταυτοποίηση της πνευμονίας που στηρίζεται κυρίως στην καλλιέργεια του μικροοργανισμού, στην ανίχνευση της αντιγόνου της legionella στα ούρα καθώς επίσης στην μικροβιολογική εξέταση και τέλος στην επιβεβαίωση της νόσου. Οι άνθρωποι μολύνονται απο τα υδατικά συστήματα μαζικής συγκέντρωσης όπως Ξενοδοχεία, Νοσοκομεία κ.α. κατά την εισπνοή βακτηρίων που αιωρούνται στην ατμόσφαιρα σε μορφή αερολύματος.  Η θεραπεία απαιτεί εισαγωγή στο Νοσοκομείο και χορήγηση αντιβιοτικών. Η μετάδοση της νόσου γίνεται μέσω της εισπνοής μολυσμένων σταγονιδίων. Πρόκειται για μεμονωμένα περιστατικά που συμβαίνουν καθόλη την διάρκεια του έτους κυρίως όμως καλοκαιρινούς μήνες. 

Legionnaires disease is an atypical rare from pneumonia caused by bacteria of the legionella genus. It is a gram (-) bacillus that thrives mainly in aquatic natural and artificial environments and is legionella pneumophila. The diagnosis of the disease is based on the  clinical identification  of pneumonia which is mainly based on the culture of the microorganism, the ditection of the legionella antigen in the urine as well as the microbiological examination and finally the confirmation of the disease. People are contaminated by water systems of mass concentration such as hotels, hospitals etc. and when inhaling bacteria suspended in the atmosphere  in aerosol from same particular source. Treament of the disease requires hospitalization and intravenous antibiotics. Transmission of the disease occurs through ih halation of infected droplets. These are isolated incidents that occur throughout the year, but mainly concern the summer months.
