The purpose of this thesis is the development of a business plan for the establishment of a production unit for the production of olive oil in premium packaging, in an area located just outside the urban center of the city of Chania. It is essentially a case analysis concerning the creation of a new olive oil standardization business unit, in order to investigate its attractiveness, from an investment point of view, which is also the research question of this thesis.
The thesis consists of six chapters in which all information is reviewed regarding the necessary actions required for the establishment of the above production unit, but also the use of some important tools for the development of the business idea. More specifically, there is a detailed description of the product that will be produced by the production unit under establishment and some of its basic characteristics, the process by which it is produced as well as other important information, such as the various types of olive oil and the benefits that arise from its consumption specific product for humans and their health.
In addition, a study of the existing competition is presented. This is achieved by providing some basic information about the characteristics of the sector, in which it is going to operate, but also by presenting analyzes that examine the possible impact it will receive from factors both external as well as its internal environment.
Furthermore, the marketing plan is developed, through the definition of the target market and the analysis of the remaining three "Ps" (price, place and promotion).
In addition, some important elements are presented regarding the company's operating plan, such as the relationship that the company proposes to develop with its suppliers and the way it will choose them, the procedures for obtaining the required operating licenses that it will have to issue are defined the company, while there is a detailed description of the facilities of the production unit as well as the required staff that it should hire in order to achieve its smooth operation.
The financial analysis of the business plan presents the assumptions with which the development of the company's financial plan was supported, both in relation to the projected sales and in relation to the projected unit cost of the products and the possible results for the next five years. In addition, additional information is given regarding the amortization of possible lending as well as the assessment of its cash flow situation. Finally, a brief evaluation of the proposed investment is presented using the net present value method and the internal rate of return.
Finally, some useful conclusions are presented which have been drawn from the analysis of all the above data, while relevant answers are also given to the research questions posed as formulated above.
