This dissertation thesis examines the role of Hydrogen as an alternative fuel which can substitute the traditionally established carbon fuels. Nowadays, energy industry faces the critical challenge to effectively satisfy the energy needs worldwide and the same time to reduce the carbon emissions supporting planet’s sustainability.

Incorporating evidence from scientific publications, reviews, engineering literature and studies, this dissertation demonstrates that hydrogen’s enablement and inclusion in tommorow’s energy mix can efficiently reduce carbon emissions and that technology and expertise needed are well established. Also, out of the present paper, the financial benefits of hydrogen investments are investigated by the implementation of the financial principles in a comparative investment study.

Finally, the particular study aims to define the critical factors that can positively affect the hydrogen’s expansion and market formation. Policies and initiatives undertaken concerning hydrogen are also investigated invoking insights from nowadays coferences concerning the climate change.
