Η παρούσα διπλωματική εργασία διερευνά τις σχέσεις μεταξύ Ελλάδας και Ηνωμένων Πολιτειών κατά την περίοδο 1974-1981, καθώς και το φαινόμενο του αντιαμερικανισμού εκείνης της περιόδου. Η μελέτη εξετάζει κυρίως τις πολιτικές πτυχές αυτής της σχέσης, με σκοπό την κατανόηση των παραγόντων που επηρέασαν τους ελληνοαμερικανικούς δεσμούς, αλλά και την όξυνση των αντιαμερικανικών συναισθημάτων στην Ελλάδα. Οι ερευνητικοί στόχοι περιλαμβάνουν μια εκτενή ανάλυση του ιστορικού πλαισίου, του πολιτικού λόγου των σημαντικότερων πολιτικών προσωπικοτήτων της χώρας, του Τύπου, των κύριων γεγονότων και των σημαντικών πολιτικών εξελίξεων, που διαμόρφωσαν τις ελληνοαμερικανικές σχέσεις κατά την καθορισμένη περίοδο. Επιπλέον, αυτή η έρευνα αποσκοπεί στον εντοπισμό των καταλυτικών παραγόντων πίσω από το φαινόμενο του αντιαμερικανισμού, αλλά και πως αυτό το φαινόμενο επηρέασε την πολιτική ζωή της χώρας.

This master's thesis investigates the dynamic relationship between Greece and the United States from 1974 to 1981, along with the phenomenon of anti-Americanization that emerged within Greek society during this period. The study explores the political, economic, and cultural dimensions of this relationship, aiming to gain a comprehensive understanding of the factors that influenced the Greek-American ties and the subsequent anti-American sentiments in Greece. The research objectives encompass a thorough analysis of the historical context, key events, and significant policy developments that shaped the Greek-American relationship during the specified timeframe. Moreover, this thesis aims to identify the catalysts behind the anti-Americanization trend within Greek society and its impact on various aspects of public opinion, cultural expressions, and political discourse.

To achieve these objectives, a multidisciplinary approach combining historical research, policy analysis, and sociocultural studies is employed. Extensive primary and secondary sources, including official documents, archival materials, academic literature, and media representations, are utilized to construct a comprehensive narrative. The findings of this study reveal a complex interplay of factors that influenced the Greek-American relationship during 1974-1981. These include geopolitical considerations, diverging national interests, regional dynamics, and shifting political alliances. Additionally, the emergence of anti-American sentiments in Greece is examined, shedding light on the underlying causes, such as Cold War politics, nationalist ideologies, and socio-cultural transformations. Ultimately, this research contributes to a deeper understanding of the intricate dynamics between Greece and the United States during a pivotal period in their bilateral relations. By examining the anti-Americanization phenomenon, this study offers valuable insights into the complexities of transnational relationships, the power dynamics between nations, and the impact of cultural and political factors on public sentiment.
