    • Το ανά χείρας πόνημα αναφέρεται στην παρουσία των αγγέλων στη βιβλική και στην εικονογραφική παράδοση της Ορθόδοξης Ανατολικής Εκκλησίας, όπως αυτή αποτυπώνεται στις εικόνες των συλλογών του Βυζαντινού Μουσείου της Αθήνας, μέσα από τις σκηνές της Παλαιάς και της Καινής Διαθήκης. Η πρωτοτυπία του έγκειται στο ότι για πρώτη φορά έγινε προσπάθεια συνολικής εικονογραφικής προσέγγισης των αγγέλων μέσα από τις συλλογές αυτές, με στόχο να καταδειχθεί ο ρόλος τους στην διακονία του Θεού αλλά και στην συμμετοχή τους στη σωτηρία των ανθρώπων. Ο πιστός λαός αγάπησε και τίμησε τους αγγέλους από τη πρώτη χριστιανική περίοδο. Γι’ αυτό από πολύ νωρίς άρχισε να τους απεικονίζει είτε μεμονωμένους είτε σε παραστάσεις, οι οποίες αντλούσαν τη θεματολογία τους από τη Βίβλο. Στη βυζαντινή εποχή διαμορφώθηκε οριστικά ο αγγελικός εικονογραφικός τύπος, ο οποίος έγινε βαθιά πνευματικός και θεολογικός. Οι άγγελοι, που εικονίζονται σε εικόνες από τις συλλογές του Μουσείου, διακρίνονται για τη σχηματικότητα, την ιεροπρέπεια, την ευγένεια, την έκφραση, κυρίως όμως για την πνευματικότητα, που αντανακλά στα πρόσωπά τους το θεϊκό μεγαλείο, το οποίο ακατάπαυστα θεωρούν, διακονούν και δοξολογούν. Οι εικόνες που επιλέχθηκαν να παρουσιαστούν είναι μοναδικές σε κάλλος, ποιότητα και ύφος, που στην εικονογραφική διατύπωση τους δηλώνουν άξια τις ιδιαίτερες τάσεις και τα επιτεύγματα της εκκλησιαστικής ζωγραφικής του καιρού τους. Είναι εξαιρετικά δείγματα της βυζαντινής –μεσοβυζαντινής και παλαιολόγειας– καθώς και της μετά την Άλωση εικονογραφίας του Ελληνισμού, αλλά είναι και πλήρεις θεολογικών συμβολισμών και εξιστορήσεων. Προβάλλουν με εξαιρετικό τρόπο τη συμμετοχή των αγγελικών δυνάμεων στη θεία Οικονομία αλλά και τη συμμετοχή τους στη σωτηρία των ανθρώπων εντός του πλαισίου της παράδοσης της Εκκλησίας.
    • This thesis refers to the iconography of the Angels in biblical and pictorial tradition of the Eastern Orthodox Church as depicted in the icons from the collections of the Byzantine and Christian Museum of Athens, through the scenes of the Old and New Testament. The subject’s originality lies in the fact that for the first time an attempt was made for an overall iconographic approach of angels through these collections, in order to demonstrate the angels’ role inside the ministry of God in the Divine Economy and their participation in the salvation of human. The faithful people loved and honored angels from early Christian times, so very early began to represent them either individually or in multi-figured representations, which drew their subject’s matter from the Bible and the lives of the saints. In the Byzantine period, the iconographic type of angels was finally formed, who became deeply spiritual and theological. The angels and archangels depicted in images from the collections of the Byzantine and Christian Museum are known for their formability, their solemnity, kindness, expression and especially the spirituality reflected from the divine grandeur on their faces which they incessantly believe, preach and praise. The images which were selected to be presented in this essay are unique for their beauty, their quality and style, who in their iconographic status worthy indicate specific trends and achievements of ecclesiastical painting in their time. They are excellent examples of Byzantine - Middle and Palaiologian- and the after the Fall of Constantinople Hellenic iconography, but also full of theological symbolisms and history. They excellently demonstrate the participation of the angelic forces in the divine economy and in the salvation of the people within the framework of the tradition of the Orthodox East Church.
