As the new coronavirus pandemic overwhelms the healthcare system in an unprecedented acute crisis, doctors and nurses face higher levels of work stress than the general population, burnout, mental and physical, fear of death and loneliness. The current global cases of COVID-19 have highlighted the magnitude of the multiple threats posed by employees in its field over the past year as well as the significant impact on their psychological well-being (Di Tella et al., 2020).The impact of the pandemic is traceable at all levels of society, including business, financial, educational and psychological levels. By the end of May 2021, more than 160,000,000 people worldwide had been infected with the SARS-COV-2 virus, and Brazil, the country with the third highest number of cases worldwide, had more than 16,000,000 cases since the beginning of the pandemic. These numbers are growing aggressively and the global impact of this crisis is comparable to war. Nursing staff and health care workers are under physical and psychological pressure and their psychological state and morale are negatively affected (Barello et al., 2020).

    • Οι πανδημίες είναι εστίες μολυσματικών ασθενειών και προκαλούν υψηλή θνησιμότητα. Δεδομένης της ραγδαίας εξάπλωσης του covid-19, τα συστήματα υγείας παγκοσμίως έχουν δείξει αδυναμία να ανταποκριθούν άμεσα στις απαιτήσεις της νέας πραγματικότητας, καθώς η μετάδοση του κορωνοϊού είναι ραγδαία και ταυτόχρονα έχει κλιμακώσει τα προβλήματα ψυχικής υγείας των εργαζομένων τους. Συστηματικές ανασκοπήσεις και έρευνες επιβεβαιώνουν τον υψηλό επιπολασμό ψυχικών ασθενειών στους εργαζόμενους στην πρωτοβάθμια φροντίδα υγείας, όπως το άγχος, ο φόβος, η μοναξιά και οι διαταραχές ύπνου (Joel, Vinu., 2020). Σκοπός της παρούσας μελέτης είναι η διερεύνηση των ψυχολογικών επιπτώσεων της πανδημίας στο ιατρικό προσωπικό του Κέντρου Αναφοράς Κορωνοϊού σε συνδυασμό με τα κοινωνικοδημογραφικά και επαγγελματικά χαρακτηριστικά των εργαζομένων του. Στοχεύει επίσης να κατανοήσει τον αντίκτυπο της πανδημίας covid-19 στην ψυχική υγεία των εργαζομένων στον τομέα της υγείας. Για την επίτευξη αυτού του στόχου, μελετήθηκε ένα δείγμα 225 γιατρών και νοσηλευτών που εργάζονται σε Κέντρο Αναφοράς Κορωνοϊού στην Αθήνα και χρησιμοποιήθηκε το Ερωτηματολόγιο Ψυχικής Υγείας Πανδημίας (Copaq). Σύμφωνα με τα αποτελέσματα της μελέτης, οι εργαζόμενοι στον τομέα της υγείας είναι μια ευάλωτη ομάδα και βιώνουν δυσάρεστες εμπειρίες κατά την άσκηση του επαγγέλματός τους, ψυχική δυσφορία και εντονότερα επίπεδα σωματικού και ψυχικού στρες. Για το λόγο αυτό είναι επιτακτική η ανάγκη ενίσχυσης της σωματικής και ψυχολογικής προστασίας των επαγγελματιών υγείας με επίκεντρο τη διατήρηση της ψυχικής τους υγείας.     • Pandemics are outbreaks of infectious diseases and cause high mortality. Given the rapid spread of covid-19, healthcare systems worldwide have shown an inability to respond immediately to the demands of the new reality, as the transmission of the coronavirus is rapid and at the same time has escalated the mental health issues of its employees. Systematic reviews and research confirm the high prevalence of mental illness in primary care workers such as anxiety, fear, loneliness and sleep disorders (Joel, Vinu., 2020). The purpose of this study is to investigate the psychological effects of the pandemic on the medical staff at the Coronavirus Reference Center in combination with the socio-demographic and occupational characteristics of its employees. It also aims to understand the impact of the covid-19 pandemic on the mental health of health care workers. To achieve this goal, a sample of 225 physicians and nurses working at a Coronavirus Reference Center in Athens was studied and the Pandemic Mental Health Questionnaire(Copaq) was used. According to the results of the study, health care workers are a vulnerable group and experience unpleasant experiences in the exercise of their profession, mental discomfort and more intense levels of physical and mental stress. For this reason there is an urgent need to strengthen the physical and psychological protection of health professionals with a focus on maintaining their mental health.
