  12. It has always been necessary to have charismatic leaders who will drive the shipping business through the challenges of the 21st century with perspicacious minds, success and boldness. Leaders shall help themselves and others to do the right things. They must set direction, build an inspiring vision, and create something new. Leadership has not been about mapping out where you need to go to "win" as a team or an organization; and it is dynamic, exciting, and inspiring. A leader does not only settle the direction, but he must also use management skills to guide their people to the right destination, on a smooth and efficient way.
    • Ο στόχος της παρούσας διπλωματικής εργασίας είναι να εξετάσει το ρόλο που διαδραματίζει η ηγεσία στην σύγχρονη επιχειρηματικότητα και ειδικότερα στον κλάδο της ναυτιλίας. Στους στόχους της εργασίας περιλαμβάνεται ο προσδιορισμός των χαρακτηριστικών της ηγεσίας και η σχετική εξειδίκευση στο χώρο της ναυτιλίας μέσα από το ανάλυση του παραδείγματος του Αριστοτέλη Ωνάση. Ο ρόλος της ηγεσίας είναι απαραίτητο συστατικό στοιχείο όχι μόνο για την επιβίωση μίας ναυτιλιακής επιχείρησης και την αντιμετώπιση των προκλήσεων αλλά και για την αξιοποίηση των ευκαιριών και συνθηκών που θα επιτρέψουν την ανάπτυξη και μεγένθυσή της.
    • The aim of this dissertation is to examine the role that leadership has played in business today and especially in the sector of shipping. Especially it is going to propose leadership characteristics and abilities which are most appropriate for shipping and testify the findings through the case study of the Greek shipping magnate Aristotle Onassis. The role of leadership is not only necessary for the survival of a shipping company, but also how it can defy challenges, and also for the use of opportunities that allow the future growth, profitability and establishment of the company.
