    • Το φαινόμενο του κινδύνου και της αβεβαιότητας αποτελεί ένα απο τα βασικά πεδία της οικονομικής επιστήμης. Με το πέρασμα του χρόνου παρατηρείται όξυνση του ανταγωνισμού μεταξύ των τραπεζών και μεταβολή στον ρόλο τους , με αποτέλεσμα να οδηγηθούν οι τελευταίες στην αναζήτηση νέων αγορών , πολύ πιο σύνθετων και με υψηλό βαθμό κινδύνου, που απαιτούν μεγαλύτερη εξειδίκευση και εμπειρία. Αυτό είχε ως συνέπεια να αναλάβουν μεγαλύτερους κινδύνους που δεν είχαν προηγουμένως αντιμετωπίσει. Υπάρχουν διάφορες μορφές και μεγέθη κινδύνων στην τραπεζική που μπορούν να οδηγήσουν σε κρίσεις και σε αστάθεια του οικονομικού περιβάλλοντος. Κρίνεται απαραίτητη και γίνεται κατανοητή η σημαντικότητα της διαχείρισης των αναλαμβανόμενων κινδύνων, αλλά και της ανάπτυξης ξεχωριστής εποπτείας του τραπεζικού συστήματος κάτω απο ενα κοινό θεσμικό και εποπτικό πλαίσιο.
    • Risks are lurking in every sector of the economy and particularly in financial institutions. The role of the banks has always been specific. However, with the passage of time and due to many factors, a change in their role was observed, as well as the search for new markets, much more complex and with a higher degree of risk that require greater specialization and expertise. The result was for the banks to be exposed to greater multiple risks, not previously faced, possibly leading to economicinstability, financial imbalance and irreversible situations. Consequently, the importance of managing, preventing and dealing with these risks is essential. In the last years we have been experiencing many financial crises and their effects caused by untimely management, along with inconsistent supervision of the financial system. Hence, it is a crucial and timeless issue, which is very important for the healthier and proper functioning of banks, the assurance of confidence and the protection of the investors. Banks have always been the backbone of any economy and thus, bank risk management is one of the largest issues of economics. Each bank risk involves financial instability, which due to globalization, expands to international markets.
