    • Ζητούμενο της ΜΔΕ είναι η δημιουργία ενός υποδείγματος για την ευρύτερη περιοχή της Θεσσαλίας σύμφωνα με το οποίο, αφού επιλεγούν οι κατάλληλες θέσεις για τα λατομεία αδρανών υλικών και λαμβάνοντας υπόψη τη ζήτηση και προσφορά στην περιοχή, θα υπάρχει η δυνατότητα επιλογής των βέλτιστων από άποψη κόστους διαδρομών για τη μεταφορά και εκμετάλλευση των αδρανών υλικών. Σκοπός της ΜΔΕ είναι η διερεύνηση των Νομοθετικών περιορισμών σύμφωνα με τη λατομική Νομοθεσία και ο καθορισμός της βέλτιστης χωροθέτησης των λατομείων αδρανών υλικών στην περιοχή της Θεσσαλίας. Η δημιουργία του ζητούμενου υποδείγματος θα βασιστεί σε όλα τα στοιχεία που έχουν συλλέγει ώστε να προκύψουν οι βέλτιστες από οικονομική άποψη διαδρομές με τη μέθοδο ελαχιστοποίησης του κόστους μεταφοράς των αδρανών υλικών.
    • Despite the fact that the siting of aggregates quarries began before the National Plan was developed, has resulted in a large part of the aggregates coming from unsuitable and illegal sites with uncontrollable effects on the environment and the economy of the country. In Greece aggregates quarries are located in special areas, the quarry areas. Their integration into quarry areas is a state's long-standing policy for the sustainable exploitation of mineral raw materials and the protection of the environment. The request of the thesis is to create a model for the wider region of Thessaly, according to which, after selecting the appropriate locations for the aggregates quarries and taking into account the demand and supply in the area, there will be the possibility of choosing the cheapest way for the transport and exploitation of aggregates. Aim of the thesis, is to investigate the legislative restrictions and to determine the optimal location of the aggregates quarries in the Thessaly region. The creation of the model will be based on all the data collected in order to obtain economically optimal routes by minimizing the cost of transporting aggregates. The data to be tested according to the above methodology is the suitability of a site based on the geological characteristics of the area, the quarry siting limitations (Legislation - Natura sites etc), the demand for quarry materials in urban areas and in technical works and the existing supply. As a result there will be a model for the optimal siting of aggregates quarries, since a scientific methodology (which has not been done so far) is now being used for their selection and placement. It will mainly facilitate the regional authority to be able to indicate the optimal scenario for the location of quarries in the region of Thessaly to any interested person (eg a designer or manufacturer) and the Technical Services in budgeting as the cost of transporting aggregates is a significant budget for public works.
