    • Η παρούσα εργασία έχει ως αντικείμενο την παρουσίαση μιας εισαγωγής στη θεωρία των C*- αλγεβρών. Κύριος στόχος της εργασίας είναι να προσφέρει σε κάθε ενδιαφερόμενο αναγνώστη τη δυνατότητα να έλθει σε επαφή με τις βασικές έννοιες που σχετίζονται με τις C*- άλγεβρες καθώς και με τα βασικά θεωρήματα που εξασφαλίζουν την περαιτέρω αυτόνομη μελέτη του αντικειμένου. Η εργασία αποτελείται από τρία κεφάλαια: Στο πρώτο κεφάλαιο παρατίθενται οι βασικοί ορισμοί των αλγεβρών Banach και των C*- αλγεβρών. Αναπτύσσεται επίσης ένα μέρος της θεωρίας σχετικά με την έννοια του φάσματος των στοιχείων μιας άλγεβρας. Στο δεύτερο κεφάλαιο παρουσιάζονται οι μεταθετικές άλγεβρες Banach και C*-άλγεβρες με έμφαση στο Θεώρημα της απεικόνισης Gelfand και το μεταθετικό Θεώρημα Gelfand – Naimark. Στο τρίτο κεφάλαιο παρουσίαζεται η κεντρική έννοια των αναπαραστάσεων και το Θεώρημα Gelfand – Naimark – Segal (κατασκεύη GNS). Επίσης, μέσω της έννοιας της θετικότητας των στοιχείων μιας άλγεβρας αποδεικνύεται ότι κάθε C*-άλγεβρα διαθέτει μια πιστή αναπαράσταση. Η εργασία ολοκληρώνεται με την παράθεση χαρακτηριστικών παραδειγμάτων για την αναλυτικότερη παρουσίαση των συμπερασμάτων που αναφέρθηκαν στα προηγούμενα κεφάλαια.
    • The purpose of this thesis is to present an introduction to the theory of the C *- algebras. The main objective of the thesis is to offer to any interested reader the opportunity to encounter the basic concepts related to C *- algebras as well as the basic theorems that ensure the further autonomous study of the object. The thesis consists of three chapters: The first chapter lists the basic definitions concerning Banach algebras and C *- algebras. It also develops a part of the theory of the spectrum of elements of an algebra. The second chapter presents the commutative Banach algebras and C *-Algebras with emphasis on the Gelfand transformation theorem and the commutative Gelfand – Naimark theorem. In the third chapter the central concept of representations is presented along with the Gelfand – Naimark – Segal theorem (GNS Construction). Also, through the concept of the positivity of the elements of an algebra it is demonstrated that each C *-algebra has a faithful representation. The thesis is completed by listing various examples for a more detailed presentation of the conclusions mentioned in the previous chapters.
