Ακολούθως, αναπτύσσεται λεπτομερής ανάλυση των βασικών παραδοσιακών μοντέλων, όπως η Logistic Regression, το Z-score και οι credit scorecards, καθώς και των σύγχρονων AI-based μοντέλων, όπως τα Decision Trees, Random Forests, Gradient Boosting, XGBoost, κ.α.

This thesis focuses on the analysis of credit risk, with emphasis on the theoretical comparison between traditional and machine learning credit scoring models. First, it presents the importance of credit risk in the banking system and the role of credit scoring in the loan approval process. Subsequently, it provides a detailed analysis of key traditional models, such as Logistic Regression, Z-score and credit scorecards, as well as modern AI-based models, including Decision Trees, Random Forests, Gradient Boosting, XGBoost, and others.
The thesis highlights that machine learning models can offer higher predictive performance, mainly due to their ability to identify non-linear relationships and complex patterns within data. However, their use is accompanied by challenges related to interpretability, transparency, overfitting, model drift and algorithmic bias. For this reason, the importance of Explainable AI is also examined, with emphasis on techniques such as SHAP and LIME.
Overall, the thesis concludes that artificial intelligence should not be regarded as a complete replacement for traditional models, but rather as a complementary tool that can enhance credit assessment. Its responsible integration requires a balance between predictive accuracy, transparency, fairness, regulatory compliance and human oversight.
