Η παρούσα μεταπτυχιακή διπλωματική εργασία εκπονήθηκε με αφετηρία την ανάγκη κατανόησης και ανάδειξης ενός πεδίου που, παρά τη στρατηγική και ιστορική του σημασία για την ελληνική οικονομία και κοινωνία, παραμένει βαθιά έμφυλα άνισο: της ελληνικής ναυτιλίας. Η ναυτιλία συνιστά έναν κατεξοχήν ανδροκρατούμενο χώρο, όπου οι γυναικείες εμπειρίες, ιδίως στον τομέα της ναυτικής εργασίας εν πλω, παραμένουν συχνά αόρατες, αποσιωπημένες ή υποεκπροσωπούμενες στον επιστημονικό και δημόσιο λόγο.
Η εργασία αυτή φιλοδοξεί να συμβάλει στην αποτύπωση και ερμηνεία των εμπειριών των γυναικών στη σύγχρονη ελληνική ναυτιλία, όχι μέσα από αφηρημένες γενικεύσεις, αλλά μέσα από τις ίδιες τις φωνές των υποκειμένων που βιώνουν την καθημερινότητα του επαγγέλματος. Η επιλογή της φεμινιστικής έρευνας έγινε με την μεθοδολογία των ποιοτικών συνεντεύξεων μέσω ημιδομημένων ερωτηματολογίου καθώς επιτρέπει την ανάδειξη σύνθετων ζητημάτων, όπως οι έμφυλες σχέσεις εξουσίας, η επαγγελματική αναγνώριση, η δυναμική του πληρώματος, η παρενόχληση, καθώς και η κρίσιμη τομή της μητρότητας στη ναυτική σταδιοδρομία.
Παράλληλα, η εργασία επιχειρεί να γεφυρώσει το θεωρητικό και το εμπειρικό επίπεδο, εντάσσοντας τα ερευνητικά ευρήματα σε ένα ευρύτερο φεμινιστικό, κοινωνιολογικό και θεσμικό πλαίσιο ανάλυσης. Στόχος δεν είναι μόνο η καταγραφή των ανισοτήτων, αλλά και ο κριτικός αναστοχασμός γύρω από τις προοπτικές μετασχηματισμού του κλάδου προς ένα πιο δίκαιο, συμπεριληπτικό και δημοκρατικό εργασιακό περιβάλλον.
Η παρούσα μελέτη απευθύνεται τόσο στην ακαδημαϊκή κοινότητα όσο και σε όσους και όσες εμπλέκονται θεσμικά, επαγγελματικά ή πολιτικά με τη ναυτιλία, επιδιώκοντας να ενισχύσει τον διάλογο για την έμφυλη ισότητα ως αναπόσπαστο στοιχείο της κοινωνικής και επαγγελματικής βιωσιμότητας του κλάδου.
The master thesis was created due to the necessity to investigate and critically analyze one of the spheres which is strategically important to the Greek economy and society and is still highly genderized: Greek shipping. Even though shipping is a global industry with a long and rich history, it is still organised as a highly male-dominated industry, where the experiences of women, especially that of women seafarers, are not merely invisible, marginalised, or underrepresented in the literature and popular media. The current work aims to add to the better comprehension of the role of women in the modern Greek shipping through providing a foreground of their lived lives and professional careers. Instead of abstract generalisations, the study focuses over the voices of the people themselves engaged in the maritime workplace, expressing the experiences of gender relations, power relations, professional acknowledgement, and daily contact on the board ships and in the shipping system in general. It is possible to address the intricate and sensitive topics, including gendered hierarchies, crew relationships, exclusion in the workplace, as well as a crucial intersection between maritime careers and motherhood, with the help of a qualitative methodological approach, according to which semi-structured interviews will be conducted. Simultaneously, such a thesis is meant to combine the practical results with theoretical consideration, as it would locate the study in the framework of feminist, sociological, and institutional analysis. It is not a mere report of the current inequalities, but it is also a critical reflection on conditions within which the significant change can possibly take place. In this way, the study hopes to make a contribution to the current academic discourse, and to provide information to both policy and professional discourse on gender equality, social justice, and the sustainability of human resource in the Greek shipping. Finally, the work is targeted at both scholars and practitioners and policymakers, as it underlines the idea that gender equality in shipping is not the side problem, but it is the inseparable part of a sound, equitable, and sustainable shipping industry.
