    • <p style="text-align: justify;">This dissertation investigates the vulnerability of the archaeological site of Mycenae in light of contemporary challenges posed by climate change and increasing visitor pressure. As a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site and a prominent cultural tourism destination, Mycenae is increasingly threatened by environmental stressors, including rising temperatures, extreme weather events, erosion, and the proliferation of vegetation, all of which pose significant risks to the integrity of its architectural and archaeological remains. In parallel, the site endures the cumulative impact of high visitor volumes, which contribute to physical degradation, soil compaction, and pressure on site infrastructure, thereby exacerbating its overall fragility. The research aims to assess the combined effects of environmental and anthropogenic pressures on the long-term preservation of the site and to critically evaluate the current site management practices. Employing an interdisciplinary methodology that draws upon heritage conservation, environmental science, and sustainable tourism studies, the study aspires to inform adaptive preservation strategies for climate-sensitive archaeological heritage. The central objective is the formulation of a comprehensive and scientifically robust framework for the protection of Mycenae and its cultural value in accordance with the conservation principles and restoration guidelines set forth by UNESCO, integrate international standards established by organizations such as ICOMOS, and align with the relevant national legislative provisions governing cultural heritage protection in Greece The approach includes systematic archaeological documentation, a critical assessment of the site's preservation status and accessibility, and an analysis of environmental and socio-economic factors influencing its condition. Risk assessment will identify current and future vulnerabilities, while technological tools will be integrated to enhance documentation and monitoring processes. Stakeholder engagement—including collaboration with the Ministry of Culture, local authorities, and the community—will ensure that proposed strategies are contextually appropriate and broadly supported. Educational initiatives and public outreach efforts will promote awareness and stewardship, while a ten-year management plan will provide long-term direction. Finally, the study will explore opportunities for international collaboration to integrate global best practices and foster cross-cultural exchange in heritage management.</p>
    • <p style="text-align: justify;">Η παρούσα διατριβή εστιάζει στους πολλαπλούς παράγοντες που επηρεάζουν τον αρχαιολογικού χώρου των Μυκηνών, λαμβάνοντας υπόψη τις επιπτώσεις της κλιματικής αλλαγής και την αυξανόμενη πίεση από τον τουρισμό. Ως αναγνωρισμένο Μνημείο Παγκόσμιας Κληρονομιάς της UNESCO, ο χώρος πλήττεται από περιβαλλοντικές μεταβολές όπως η αύξηση της θερμοκρασίας, η συχνότητα ακραίων καιρικών φαινομένων, η διάβρωση και η ανεξέλεγκτη βλάστηση, οι οποίες επιβαρύνουν τη στατικότητα και τη διατήρηση των αρχαιολογικών καταλοίπων. Παράλληλα, η εντατική επισκεψιμότητα προκαλεί φθορά, συμπίεση του εδάφους και πίεση στα αρχιτεκτονικά κατάλοιπα. Σκοπός της έρευνας είναι η ανάπτυξη ενός ολοκληρωμένου και επιστημονικά θεμελιωμένου πλαισίου προστασίας του μνημείου και της πολιτιστικής του αξίας, ευθυγραμμισμένου με τις αρχές της UNESCO, τα διεθνή πρότυπα του ICOMOS και τη σχετική ελληνική νομοθεσία. Η μεθοδολογία συνδυάζει τη συστηματική αρχαιολογική τεκμηρίωση, την κριτική αξιολόγηση της κατάστασης διατήρησης και προσβασιμότητας, την ανάλυση περιβαλλοντικών και κοινωνικοοικονομικών παραμέτρων και τη διενέργεια εκτίμησης κινδύνου για την ανάδειξη υπαρχουσών και δυνητικών απειλών. Η αξιοποίηση προηγμένων τεχνολογικών εργαλείων ενισχύει τη διαδικασία παρακολούθησης, ενώ η συμμετοχή όλων των εμπλεκόμενων φορέων —του Υπουργείου Πολιτισμού, των τοπικών αρχών και της κοινότητας— εξασφαλίζει τη βιωσιμότητα και κοινωνική αποδοχή των προτεινόμενων παρεμβάσεων. Επιπλέον, εκπαιδευτικές και ενημερωτικές δράσεις αποσκοπούν στην ενίσχυση της κοινωνικής ευαισθητοποίησης και της ενεργού συμμετοχής στη διατήρηση του χώρου. Η διατριβή ολοκληρώνεται με την πρόταση ενός δεκαετούς σχεδίου διαχείρισης και τη διερεύνηση δυνατοτήτων διεθνούς συνεργασίας, με στόχο την υιοθέτηση βέλτιστων πρακτικών και την προώθηση της διαπολιτισμικής ανταλλαγής στο πεδίο της προστασίας της πολιτιστικής κληρονομιάς.</p>
