Inguinal hernia is a prevalent medical condition that affects a significant portion of the population worldwide. It’s characterized by the protrusion of abdominal contents through an opening or a weak spot in the inguinal canal. The prevalence of inguinal hernia varies across different populations, age groups and genders. Various risk factors contribute to the development of inguinal hernias; understanding them is essential in order to identify high risk patients and implementing preventive measures. Inguinal hernias are usually asymptomatic; however, they can lead to complications like strangulation and incarceration that requires acute surgical intervention. Surgical treatment of inguinal hernia is a common procedure. Based on type of inguinal hernia, can be laparoscopic or classic open surgery. Recurrence of inguinal hernia after surgery can happen when we have a reappearance of the hernia at the site where it was previously repaired. Despite the fact that surgeries for repair of inguinal hernias are lot of practiced, hernia recurrence can still often occur. Understanding the epidemiology of inguinal hernia is crucial for healthcare professionals in order to develop effective prevention strategies and provide optimal care for the affected individuals as well as to prevent the recurrence of it.
