    • Work - life balance is about balancing between working and personal life demands. The purpose of this study is to reveal the situation concerning work - life balance in Greece in both public and private sector. Life - work conflict, work - life conflict, satisfaction from family life and work, together with psychological health, measure the level of work - life balance. Relevant facilitation benefits provided by the employer also influence the level of balance. Greece is reported to have the lowest level of work - life balance among EU countries and one of the lowest internationally. The quantitative survey conveyed for this study, generated a unique dataset of primary data. The prepared questionnaire was answered by 237 employees working in Greece. Findings confirm that the level of work - life balance in Greece is low and that the public sector seems to have a slightly better work - life balance than the private one. Differences in the work - life facilitation benefits have been recorded, indicating different types of benefits for each sector. There is no significant difference between the two sectors concerning family - work conflict, whereas the private sector faces greater work - family conflict. Although family satisfaction is not affected by the sector, Greek public sector’s employees believe that their personal lives are close to their ideal, in contrast with the employees of the private sector. However, job satisfaction is reported to be higher in the private sector. The public sector reports higher level of psychological health -its employees feeling less constant strain- compared to the private sector employees. As the questionnaire was distributed during the new coronavirus spreading prevention measures (April 2020), relevant questions were added but there was no evidence of the sector (public or private) affecting work - life balance during the coronavirus measurements’ period. This study is a step to revealing the situation of work - life (im)balance in Greece in the public and private sector and may serve as stimulus to further research.
