    • The modern library ought to be part of the society that surrounds it, part of the society it refers to. In recent years, libraries, especially public or municipal, have no longer been places where books are kept or simply reading rooms. They are a multidimensional cultural body which must involve its audience, in order to be indispensable. Wherever they are run in another way, they are nothing more than a dead cell of the area they belong to. The modern library, in order to be a cultural core and to produce a benevolent and essential work, must actively seek out ways of approaching its audience and provide culture in a variety of ways. This target requires financial resources and proper management. Particularly in municipal libraries, where subsidies are now extremely low, the situation is becoming more and more difficult. Resources are scarce and choices are really limited. Synchronizing library operations with technology and its steps, as well as investing in human resources, seem to be methods that lead to success. In the present study, following examples of good practice (Amsterdam- London- Veroia- Rapsani ) we will attempt to present a proposal for the transfer and incorporation of these practices in our case study, the Municipal Library of Ano Poli, Thessaloniki.
