    • ΠΕΡΙΛΗΨΗ Η ενετοκρατούμενη Κρήτη διαδραμάτισε έναν δημιουργικό ρόλο στο πεδίο της μεταβυζαντινής τέχνης, ιδιαίτερα δε στη ζωγραφική φορητών εικόνων, επηρεάζοντας αποφασιστικά την εξέλιξη της βυζαντινής ζωγραφικής, ανανεώνοντας την και εμβολιάζοντας επιδέξια δυτικά αναγεννησιακά και μανιεριστικά στοιχεία. Η τάση αυτή απέκτησε την μέγιστη έκφρασή της στα έργα της Κρητικής Σχολής Αγιογραφίας, η οποία δίνει νέα πνοή στους καθιερωμένους βυζαντινούς εικονογραφικούς τύπους. Υπερβαίνοντας τα τοπικά, αλλά και τα σύνορα του ορθόδοξου κόσμου, οι Κρήτες αγιογράφοι μεγαλούργησαν. Θρησκευτικοί πίνακες της Κρητικής Σχολής κοσμούν σήμερα σημαντικά ευρωπαϊκά μουσεία και πινακοθήκες. Ωστόσο, η Κρητική Σχολή δε φαίνεται να απολαμβάνει στις μέρες μας την ανάλογη αναγνώριση από το ευρύ κοινό. Στόχος της διπλωματικής εργασίας είναι να ερευνηθεί η μετεξέλιξη της βυζαντινής τέχνης και ιδιαίτερα η Κρητική Σχολή Αγιογραφίας, ως προϊόν της εν λόγω μετεξέλιξης. Η μελέτη μας επεκτείνεται στο Μουσείο Αγίας Αικατερίνης Σιναϊτών, σημαντικός χώρος προβολής και ανάδειξης της Κρητικής Σχολής. Φιλοδοξία της μελέτης είναι να λειτουργήσει ως έναυσμα για την ανάπτυξη Διαδικτυακού Τόπου Εικονικής Αναπαράστασης της Κρητικής Σχολής, μέσω του οποίου θα παρέχεται μια ιστορική περιπλάνηση στην ενετοκρατούμενη Κρήτη και μια ολοκληρωμένη αφήγηση της δράσης και του έργου των σπουδαίων ζωγράφων της εποχής αυτής. Δίδοντας ευκαιρία για μια διεισδυτική ματιά στον χώρο και τον χρόνο, ο σύγχρονος αυτός χώρος θα μπορούσε να καταστεί σηματοδότης της Κρητικής πολιτισμικής κληρονομιάς.
    • Venetian-occupied Crete played a creative role in the field of post-Byzantine art, especially in the painting of portable icons, decisively influencing the evolution of the Byzantine painting art, renewing it in a spectacular way, skillfully drawing and inoculating Western Renaissance and Mannerist elements. This tendency acquired its maximum expression in the works of the Cretan School of Hagiography, giving new life to the established Byzantine iconographic types. Crossing the local and the borders of the Orthodox world, they grew and became known in most of the European territory. Religious paintings of the Cretan School now adorn important European museums and galleries. However, although the Cretan School marked a glorious period in the history of Crete, laying the foundations of the Cretan Renaissance, it does not seem to enjoy such recognition today by the general public. The aim of this dissertation is to investigate the evolution of Byzantine art and especially the Cretan School of Hagiography, as a product of this evolution. Our study extends to the Museum of St. Catherine of Sinai, an important site for the promotion of the Cretan School. The ambition of the study is to act as a trigger for the development of a Website of Virtual Representation of the Cretan School, through which a historical wandering in Venetian-occupied Crete will be provided and a complete narrative of the action and work of the great painters of that time. Giving an opportunity for a penetrating look at space and time, this modern space could become a beacon of Cretan cultural heritage.
