    • Ο μετασχηματισμός που έχει υποστεί ο ελληνικός αστικός χώρος τον τελευταίο αιώνα έχει αφήσει το αποτύπωμά του στη μορφή του δομημένου ιστού. Αρχικά, οι κοινωνικο-ιστορικές εξελίξεις, η τεχνολογική ανάπτυξη και οι διάφοροι πολιτικο-γεωγραφικοί παράγοντες επηρέασαν σε μεγάλο βαθμό το σχεδιασμό των πόλεων και τη χωροθέτηση των χρήσεων γης ενώ αργότερα η ανθρώπινη παραγωγική δραστηριότητα συνέβαλλε -και εξακολουθεί να συμβάλλει- στη διαμόρφωση της εικόνας που έχει η σύγχρονη πόλη. Οι παραπάνω παράγοντες προκάλεσαν ταχύτατη, ανεξέλεγκτη και άναρχη επέκταση του δομημένου χώρου εις βάρος των ελεύθερων υπαίθριων χώρων της πόλης.
    • The radical reformation that the urban space has undergone during the last century has undoubtedly left its mark on the structure of the built environment. Initially, the parameters behind urban design and land use allocation were the socio-historical developments of human history alongside technological progress and other political and geographical factors. However, later on it was human activity that contributed – and does still contribute – in shaping the image that the cities of modern society hold. All the aforementioned elements resulted in the rapid and uncontrolled expansion of built space against free outdoor spaces in the city.
