    • Η παρούσα διπλωματική εργασία εξετάζει το ζήτημα της αξιοποίησης και αναβάθμιση υπαίθριων χώρων σε πολεοδομικά συγκροτήματα, εστιάζοντας στην ανάπλαση αστικών θαλάσσιων μετώπων. Στόχος είναι η δημιουργία χώρων στα πλαίσια της βιώσιμης ανάπτυξης που να συμβάλλουν στην δημιουργία χώρων πρασίνου και δικτύων ήπιων μορφών μετακίνησης στον αστικό ιστό. Το τμήμα του παραλιακού μετώπου της Θεσσαλονίκης το οποίο παρουσιάζει η εργασία, αποτελεί παράδειγμα ανεκμετάλλευτου χώρου ο οποίος βρίσκεται σε άμεση επαφή με αστικές εκτάσεις ενταγμένες σε πολεοδομικά σχέδια. Η πρόταση ανάπλασης της περιοχής αναδεικνύει τα προβλήματα του θαλάσσιου μετώπου και προτείνει βασικές κατευθύνσεις για την αντιμετώπισή τους.
    • The postgraduate thesis explores the tendencies in the field of urban design, emphasing on the waterfront regeneration. The theoritical framework of this paper sets the context of the waterfront regeneration through examples of projects from the Region of Southern Europe. Also it disscusses the role of public intervention. It focusres on the neccessity of the bottoms-up practice in the urban design.The case study is about the regeneration of the waterfront of Kalamaria- Thessaloniki focusing on the sustainable urban design. During the analysis of the site, participatory practices have been used in order to take into consideration the public opinion. The directions for further development follow the 4 axes of sustainability, environment, economy, society and culture.
