    • Marketing activities have traditionally been conducted via communication, transaction anddistribution channels. Today activities from these channels can be performed on the Internet andthe World Wide Web. This phenomenon provides a new opportunity for companies consideringthat they can make use of this tool at a relatively low cost. The purpose of this thesis is toinvestigate how companies use their websites as a marketing tool. In order to make theconclusions, four companies are examined which are a representative sample of the internetservices market and the domestic appliances market. More specifically, the HOL (Hellas OnLine) and the Forthnet are chosen which are the most important internet service providers inGreece and Electroniki Athinon and Kotsovolos which can be considered as the most knownstores in domestic appliances in Greece. Having presented how these companies have developedand afterwards how they improved their websites conclusions have been made concerning theeffectiveness of their websites and whether the companies are influenced positively ornegatively.
