    • Η συντήρηση της πολιτισμικής κληρονομιάς αποτελεί μια υψηλής σημασίας διαδικασία στη διατήρηση των τεκμηρίων του παρελθόντος, των καταλοίπων του υλικού και άυλου πολιτισμού του ανθρώπου και των μηνυμάτων που αυτά μεταφέρουν στις επόμενες γενιές. Η έννοια της συντήρησης που σχετίζεται με τη φθορά και τη διάβρωση της ύλης, τις επεμβάσεις του ανθρώπινου παράγοντα και τις φυσικές διεργασίες που εκτυλίσσονται, μπορεί να νοηματοδοτήσει τα αντικείμενα με επιπλέον πολιτισμικό περιεχόμενο. Η επικοινωνία αυτών των νοημάτων είναι δυνατό να προσεγγιστεί με ποικίλους τρόπους, εμπλέκοντας τις κοινωνίες άμεσα μέσα από δράσεις επικοινωνιακές, εκπαιδευτικές και ψυχαγωγικές. Το δημόσιο όφελος που απορρέει από την αναπτυσσόμενη σχέση μεταξύ της συντήρησης, της τεχνολογίας, της επικοινωνίας και της παιδείας είναι μεγάλο. Οι κοινωνίες ευαισθητοποιούνται πάνω στο ζήτημα της διασφάλισης των αντικειμένων του πολιτισμού για τις επόμενες γενιές και μαθαίνουν να συμμετέχουν στις διαδικασίες της συντήρησης. Η παρουσίαση και ερμηνεία ως δύο βασικές λειτουργίες στη μετάδοση και κατανόηση του πολιτισμικού περιεχομένου, μπορούν να αξιοποιηθούν στην περίπτωση της συντήρησης για την κατανόηση της διαδικασίας της διάβρωσης, τη σημασία της διαφύλαξης των τεκμηρίων της ανθρώπινης δραστηριότητας, αλλά και την αντίληψη και ερμηνεία όρων που σχετίζονται με επιστήμες που την περιβάλλουν. Η προληπτική συντήρηση, μια άδηλη διαδικασία στη διαφύλαξη και διαχείριση των μουσειακών συλλογών, γίνεται η βασική ιδέα για τη μεταβολή της συντήρησης από αθέατη διαδικασία σε αυτούσιο έκθεμα. Επιδείξεις συντηρητών, εργαστηριακός εξοπλισμός και απτικά αντικείμενα, γίνονται η πρώτη ύλη της ανάδειξης της συντήρησης ως έκθεμα. Στην ενίσχυση της αφήγησης της συντήρησης συμβάλλουν τα ερμηνευτικά μέσα, τα μουσειακά κείμενα και τα ψηφιακά εκθέματα, νοηματοδοτώντας επιπρόσθετα τα αυτούσια εκθέματα των συλλογών. Η κατανόηση της πολυμορφίας του κοινωνικού ρόλου της συντήρησης στην επικοινωνία και εκπαίδευση, είναι η βασική παραδοχή για την αναγνώριση της σπουδαιότητας αυτής της βασικής λειτουργίας και της ευθύνης στη διαφύλαξη της πολιτισμικής κληρονομιάς για τις μελλοντικές γενιές.
    • The Conservation of cultural heritage is a very important process in preserving the past, the remnants of the material and intangible civilization of man and the messages that they convey to the future generations. The concept of Conservation related to wear and degradation of materials, human factor interventions and natural processes that unfold, can give the objects an extra cultural content. The communication of these contents can be approached in a variety of ways, involving communities directly through communicative, educational and recreational activities. The public benefit deriving from the growing relationship between conservation, technology, communication and education is great. Societies are aware of the issue of securing the objects of culture for future generations and learn to participate in the conservation processes. Presentation and interpretation as two basic functions in the transmission and understanding of cultural content can be exploited in the case of Conservation to understand the corrosion process, the importance of preserving the evidence of human activity, as well as the perception and interpretation of scientific terms that are related to the sciences that surround conservation. Preventive conservation, a latent process in the preservation and management of museum collections, becomes the basic idea of changing conservation from an invisible process into a self-sufficient exhibit. Conservators’ demonstrations, laboratory equipment and tactile objects become the raw material of displaying conservation as an exhibit. The interpretative means, the museum texts and the digital exhibits contribute to the enhancement of the narration of conservation and in addition they give meaning to the self-sufficient exhibits of the collections. The understanding of the diversity of the social role of conservation in communication and education is the basic premise for recognizing the importance of this basic function and the responsibility for preserving the cultural heritage for future generations.
