    • Το θαλάσσιο μέτωπο του Αιγίου, που βρέχεται από τα νερά του Κορινθιακού κόλπου, αποτελεί ένα ιδιαίτερα σύνθετο και πολυεπίπεδο όριο μεταξύ υδάτινου στοιχείου και αστικού χώρου. Η πολυπλοκότητά του έγκειται στο γεγονός ότι συγκροτεί ένα γραμμικό όριο αναφοράς ανάμεσα στο κυρίαρχο στοιχείο του νερού και στο Αίγιο, πάνω στο οποίο συγκεντρώνονται βασικές υποδομές της πόλης, η παλιά σιδηροδρομική γραμμή Κιάτου-Πάτρας, το άξιο προστασίας οικοσύστημα της παλιάς αλυκής (περιοχή Natura) και κτίρια που συνδέονταν παραδοσιακά με τη βιομηχανική δραστηριότητα του Αιγίου, όπως το εργοστάσιο παραγωγής σταφίδας και η παλιά χαρτοποιία της πόλης. Η σύγχρονη εξάπλωση δραστηριοτήτων, υπηρεσιών και εμπορίου, καθώς και οι μελλοντικές χρήσεις διαμετακομιστικού θαλάσσιου κέντρου στο παραλιακό μέτωπο ολοκληρώνουν την κοινωνικά, αντιληπτικά, οικολογικά και σημειολογικά σύνθετη εικόνα του. Διαμορφώνεται έτσι μια συνθήκη πολύπλοκων «ροών»: του ίδιου του νερού που «αΐσσει» (κινείται ορμητικά, σείεται, εξ’ ου και η προέλευση της ονομασίας της πόλης), της κίνησης πεζών, οχημάτων και άλλων μέσων μεταφοράς, της συμβολικής «εκβολής» και προβολής των αστικών δομικών στοιχείων (αρχιτεκτονική φυσιογνωμία, διέξοδοι και παράκτιες δραστηριότητες των κατοίκων) στο όριο αυτό. Στόχος της διπλωματικής εργασίας είναι να αναδείξει τους πιθανούς τρόπους συγκερασμού αυτών των ροών, αξιοποιώντας τόσο τη δυναμική ενός γραμμικού ορίου μεταξύ νερού και δομημένου ιστού, όσο και την εγγενή δομική ποιότητά του ώστε το όριο αυτό να παραμένει διάτρητο, προσπελάσιμο από την πραγματική και νοητή επικοινωνία των εκατέρωθεν τοπιακών στοιχείων.
    • The waterfront of the city of Aegio, in the Corinthian Bay, forms a highly intricate and multi-layered threshold defining the boundary between the water element and the urban environment. Its complex nature lays on the fact that it is a linear point of reference that brings together the dominant element of water, the city of Aegio and a multifaceted program that exists on site combining infrastructure networks, the old railway line of Kiato-Patras, the fragile and protected ecosystem of an old salt lake (“Natura” region) and various built spaces, once associated with the industrial and commercial activity of the city, such as the old raisin factory and the old paper mill of the city. In addition to these layers of activity, commercial, trading and other city services are expanding nowadays towards the waterfront while a new port is planned to be constructed in the near future, completing the socially, perceptive, ecologically and semantically complex image of the site. A condition of intersecting “flows” is therefore manifested on the waterfront of Aegio, that means the rapid movement of sea water, hence the name of the city, the pedestrian or flows of transportation, the symbolic estuary of urban life and the projection of urban components (with their architectural values and socio-economic activities). The aim of this diploma thesis is to highlight possible ways of dealing with such a multi-layered (multifaceted) landscape and reconcile the existing and proposed flows, by reclaiming the dynamics of a linear threshold between water and urban environment and the quality of the built space itself, so that the borderline remains open and accessible (permeable) on both sides to a real and imaginary communication exchange.
