Abstract: The present dissertation aims to investigate the English language teachers’ views on the use of video as a teaching tool while teaching the English language in Greece. In particular, the use of video as a means for the promotion of listening skills, as well as the improvement of speaking skills of students belonging to different levels of language acquisition and who are taught English as a foreign language is investigated. Simultaneously, it makes some video-based lesson proposals, aiming to offer some extra help to practitioners. For this reason, after presenting the theoretical background of the study, a questionnaire, which was distributed to 90 Greek EFL teachers working in state schools, private schools and foreign language institutes, aiming to extract useful conclusions related to the attitude Greek teachers of the English language have towards the use of the specific tool, is explored. The questionnaire comprises 18 questions with 3 of them having 2 subquestions and the questions were both close-ended and open-ended, making the findings of the research open not only to quantitative but also to qualitative interpretation. At the same time, an attempt was made to examine the extent to which the several pedagogical theories exposed during the first two chapters of the present dissertation are confirmed. The results of the questionnaire showed that teachers working in the Greek EFL context are keen on organizing video-based lessons as they feel that they promote motivation and learner autonomy and also help students develop their listening and speaking skills. However, some implications and difficulties arose and an attempt was made to be interpreted in the last chapter of the present study as well as supplemented by three video lesson proposals provided.
