|Abstract:||AbstractThis project comprises the design, creation and development of novel educational material as well as the piloting and evaluation of its first application at a school project which was part of an environmental educational syllabus. The project was about economizing energy via the construction of an automatically tracking P/V which follows the solar path. The central part of the material is the Basic Stamp microcontroller of Parallax, programmable in Pbasic, and the materialization of certain applications through a series of activities which lead to the construction of the automatically tracking P/V. The results of the evaluation of eighty students were quite encouraging both as regards the program's educational value as well as the final product's usage. The educational applications that were implemented combined the new knowledge with the syllabus of certain school subjects, such as IT (programming and algorithms), Physics (with the realization of RC circuits) as well as the use of school lab equipment for the measurement of solar radiation. The resulting educational material comprises all characteristics of environmental educational material presenting alternative forms of organization, incorporating abundant digital material, pictures, videos of the experiments, special original software for the design of the solar orbit, animation, presentations, websites and the design of the robot construction which was materialized. With this material, an attempt is made to approach environmental education via cross-thematic integration and novelty. Keywords: educational material, evaluation, environmental education, project method, microcontrollers, Basic Stamp, Pbasic, RC circuits, tracking P/V.|
